The Muzillac area is situated in the south of Brittany, at the gateway between the départements of the Morbihan and Loire Atlantique. It goes as far as the banks
of the River Vilaine in ARZAL and PEAULE, and then the Atlantic Ocean rolls onto the beaches of BILLIERS, AMBON and DAMGAN.
Eight towns and villages, Ambon, Arzal, Billiers, Le Guerno, Muzillac, Noyal-Muzillac, and Péaule make up this Muzillac area and give it its very own
originality. You will find a variety of country scenery and a richness of cultural heritage; in fact a place where the Atlantic Ocean and Breton countryside
complement each other. The diversity of natural sites is remarkable, the richness of the various organised activities is well known, and the gastronomy is
mouth-watering.
The dual-carriageway linking Nantes and Brest passes right through the Muzillac area, putting us one hour from Nantes or Lorient and only 20 minutes from
Vannes. The attractive and well-known Morbihan Gulf (Golfe du Morbihan) is only about 30km away.
The following extracts give you a taste of our guidebook, and we hope that as a result you will want to come and see for yourself all that our area has to offer.
• At AMBON the long beach at Bétahon is shared between the swimmers on the beach in summertime, and the birds which make the dunes their
home during the winter.
• The dam at ARZAL is like a bridge between the Morbihan and Loire Atlantique, and its pleasure boat port (1000 moorings) is the last port of call
for the Breton Canals before they flow into the Atlantic Ocean.
• The red and white lighthouse in BILLIERS dominates the ancient salt marshes and the village with its remarkable bell tower, and if you take the
“Circuit of the Megaliths” you will discover the estuary of the River Vilaine.
• LE GUERNO is a classified village (similar to a National Trust classification), rich in architecture and history, and animals from all over the world
have made the Branféré Park their home.
• MUZILLAC has a large variety of shops and different services, and in addition, Pen Mur offers both walkers and freshwater fishermen a
calmness and tranquillity much sought after by lovers of nature.
• The dynamic inhabitants of NOYAL MUZILLAC work hard to revive their history and maintain the beautiful buildings in their classified village by
putting on a wide variety of festivals.
• PEAULE is a large village, rich in architectural heritage, surrounded by lovely countryside and beautiful scenery which goes down to the banks
of the River Vilaine; and continues into the woods nearby where the goblins from history have left evidence of their presence….
• LA ROCHE BERNARD is situated between Vannes and Nantes, with the picturesque Guérande Peninsula lying to the south and the Rhuys
Peninsula extending to the north, skirting the entrance to the magnificent Gulf of Morbihan.
The township of La Roche-Bernard dates back to an ancient settlement on the spur of La Garenne, a tributary of the Vilaine River. This striking position at the
confluence of river and sea offers a unique and relaxing mix of scenery, national heritage and, not least, gastronomy.
Tourism is an important part of the Morbihan economy, and the Muzillac area has so many points of interest which can attract and welcome a large number of holiday
makers and visitors throughout the year. All of the professionals linked to tourism and leisure activities, as well as the local authorities, clubs and societies
have done their best to put in place all that is necessary to make your stay here as pleasant as possible.
